How to Grow Potatoes

Growing Season

Plant in March, April or May at the very latest.

Potatoes are best grown outside of the bed in sacks to make sure you get every potato when you’re ready to harvest.

Potato seeds benefit from being ‘chitted’. To do this place the seeds in open egg boxes on a sunny ledge. When the ‘eyes’ sprout, find the strongest sprout and place the seed in the soil with this one facing up. Once the new stems have grown bushy, cover with soil leaving a few sticking through.

Repeat 2 or 3 times as the potato grows until the plant is well developed. The potatoes will be ready to eat after 16-20 weeks.
